The Aughinish Diving Club has been in existence since 1984.
It began within Aughinish Alumina in Foynes and since then has grown to include members outside of Aughinish and the greater Limerick area. Today our membership consists of mainly people living and working in the Limerick City area. |
The club currently has a membership of over 50 people, from the age of 8 to 65. These include snorkelers and scuba divers. Diving occurs on a weekly basis, with most of the diving done during the summer and a few hard core divers getting a few in during the winter.
Our weekly dive sites are around the Kilkee area and the long weekends include trips from anywhere from Donegal to Cork. We get away for two, one-week long trips during the season. One week we head to beautiful Smerwick harbor in Kerry and the other week, the diving officer picks an area that we have not visited at all, or have not visited in recent years.
Training:
~ The diving club welcomes new members from any organization and any levels. ~ Training for beginners take place during the winter and start in classroom and pool. ~ Training is also available for all levels, from club diver (autonomous diver) to instructor/examiner level and for specialties like cox'n, gas blender, extended range. ~ Our 11 instructors are members of the club and more are currently studying to become instructors.
